Retreat Date: 22 - 27 October, 2017

Enjoy the space to be inspired.

Your Beautiful Writing Life retreat offers you the time and space to listen to what you need in terms of balancing writing time, of which there is plenty of space for, with things like sightseeing or pampering. There's plenty of downtime factored into our time together if that's what you prefer. And for those of you needing or craving a bit more support, we will be available to provide that for you too.

A typical retreat day looks like this:

Writing Support

Your Beautiful Writing Life is all about you. The aim of our retreat is to provide you with a highly individualised experience, tailored to your specific needs as a writer. Our goal is to provide a relaxed, stress-free environment that actively fosters creativity. In addition we are offering a range of tools to support your development as a writer no matter where you are in your writing journey.

Between us, we possess a wealth of experience. We each have different areas of interest and expertise, which gives the retreat program a diverse and well-rounded program for participants to draw on.

Got questions about how to create an ensemble cast? Lisa's your girl! Need help crafting scenes with strong emotional resonance? Vanessa can help you with this!

All workshops and activities are completely optional. You may participate in as much or as little of the program as you like. This is your time. Enjoy!

We love being able to offer you more. We know how important support is. So here's something for you to get excited about...

Personalised Feedback on Your Work

Each retreat attendee will have the chance to submit up to 10 manuscript pages for written and oral feedback. Your pages will be critiqued by either Lisa or Vanessa before the beginning of the retreat. We will then set aside some time during our time away where we will be available for one:ones to discuss your work in a personalised feedback session. Again, this is optional!

Our Workshops

Drawing on my training as a Life Coach, my workshops will focus on helping writers get into the right mindset when it comes to approaching their writing. I love helping writers tap into their creativity and bring their words to the page by learning to trust themselves and work with their self-doubt. We'll be practicing meditation each morning, and you'll also learn to add this to your writer's toolkit as a wonderful resource to help you clear your head and get into writing mode.

During our time away, I'll be offering the following:

  • A group coaching session to help you define your writing goals or tap into what needs improvement or more attention in your creative life.
  • Tapping Into Your Creativity, Trusting Yourself, & Working With Self-Doubt: This workshop covers a range of techniques for overcoming writer's block and how to find inspiration when you're feeling a little lost.

Writing craft topics I'm passionate about sharing include: Hooking your reader with your first five pages, crafting emotional scenes, bringing setting to life, and coming up with a great hook for your story.

With Vanessa taking the lead on finding your creativity, my focus for this retreat will be on process and craft.

In line with our commitment to make the retreat as personalised as possible the exact content of my workshops will be decided once applications are finalised. This will allow me to look at the needs of our participants and tailor my workshops to suit.

Possible topics include:

  • Let’s Get Sorted: Organising Your Writing LifeIn this workshop I draw on my experience as a Professional Organiser to help you to unlock time and space in your life for writing.
  • To Plot or Not?  In this session we’ll look at different methods of plotting and outlining, and also discuss what to do if (like me) you are not a plotter.
  • Inside Out.  This workshop focuses on how to use point of view to engage your readers.

Writing craft topics I'm passionate about sharing include: creating memorable characters, writing engaging dialogue, handling multiple points of view, and finding your voice as a writer.

I can build a workshop based on any of these topics, so once you’ve signed up we can talk about your needs and interests and we’ll design the program from there.

In addition to our individual workshops, we will be doing a joint presentation on our journeys to publication, including sharing information on querying agents and submitting to publishers.

What's included:

  • Workshops and coaching sessions as outlined in the Retreat Program

This is our way of thanking you for joining us and is at no extra cost to you.
